VAJRAPOHA FALLS

Posted by Girish Hegade in , , , , ,

VAJRAPOHA FALLS: situated amidst enchanting hilly surroundings of the Jamboti forest is a fine spot. To reach it one has to travel from Jamboti upto a point four km beyond Chapoli and then cross the river (only in December and January) Mahadayi twice (in between is a small hill) finally leading to an elevated flat hillock. Here the river Mahadayi flowing in a serpentine fashion takes a first jump from a height of about 60 meters.

FACT FILE :

How to reach there: Take Rani Chennama Express from Bangalore to Khanapur , the nearest railway station, or take a bus to Belgaum, which is 580 kms away. From there buses and jeeps ply to Jhamboti, which is 18 kms from Khanapur and 25 kms from Belgaum.

Best Season: Mid December to mid May. It is not possible to visit the falls up to December.

Accommodation: Forest cover is the camping site, if you are not scared of wild animals. Or you can stay in the forest guest house at Jhamboti. Permission to stay here can be obtained from RFO Khanapur.

What to carry: A rope, torch, tent, sleeping bag and pack as many film rolls as you can. It is better to carry food, especially some rotti, chutni, bread and biscuits.

Wonder whether there's any place in Belgaum / Khanapur where one can rent camping equipment, including tents.
